1. Boulder Dam Hotel
This tour starts with a delicious hot made-to-order breakfast at the historic Boulder Dam Hotel. Just 30 minutes from Las Vegas and only 7 miles from Hoover Dam, the Boulder Dam Hotel is nestled in the historic district of clean, green Boulder City. Built during the construction of Hoover Dam (then Boulder Dam) the hotel has been beautifully remodeled to preserve the classic style of the era and to offer all the comforts modern travelers expect. The hotel is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and is said to be haunted.
Breakfast
Food choices may include: Fruit Plate with Yogurt, French Toast w/ Bacon, Buttermilk Pancakes, Bacon or Vegetable Skillet or a Ham, Egg & Cheese Croissant w/fruit and come with coffee, tea, orange juice or apple juice.
2. The Mighty Hoover Dam - A Walk on the Top
See Hoover Dam like very few can with our exclusive "A Walk on the Top" tour. Your fully trained guide will treat you to a 45 minute walk over the top of Hoover Dam. Here you will learn about the concrete, construction, earthquakes, electricity, cable-ways, spillways, intake towers, outlet works, rumors and deaths. Learn answers to the questions like "Is the concrete still curing?", "Are there bodies buried in the dam?", "How much did it cost to build and was it built on schedule?", "How often do people jump?" and "What is the connection with WW11?".
Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge.
Construction on the nearly 2,000 foot long bridge began in late January 2005 and the completion of the entire Hoover Dam Bypass Project is expected in Late 2010. When completed, this signature bridge will span the Black Canyon (about 1,500 feet south of the Hoover Dam), connecting the Arizona and Nevada Approach highways nearly 900-feet above the Colorado River. http://www.hooverdambypass.org/
3. Lake Mead Paddle Boat
Spend a refreshing afternoon on an authentic, three-level, Mississippi-style paddle-wheeler. Just being on board takes you back to the Old South. The Desert Princess is U.S. Coast Guard certified for 300 passengers and 10 crew members. She is spaciously equipped with 2 climate-controlled enclosed decks and an open promenade deck just perfect for taking in the cool, clean air and the wondrous sights.
See the back of Hoover Dam as you cruise around the lake enjoying the incredible views. The lake is teaming with wildlife: antelope squirrels, road runners, big horn sheep, eagles, coyotes and more can often be seen along the shoreline. http://www.lakemeadcruises.com/
4. Boulder Dam Museum
The Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum tells the story of the Boulder Canyon Project as it was experienced by the men and women who braved the desolation of the Southern Nevada desert to build Hoover Dam and Boulder City.
Photographs, artifacts, oral histories, and the sounds of Hoover Dam construction ringing off the walls of Black Canyon provide a sense of the complexity, danger, and immense scale of the construction project, as well as a picture of ordinary life in an extraordinary time and place.
Listen as these pioneers tell about their lives in Boulder City and down at the Hoover Dam construction site in the desperate years of the early 1930s.
Mothers describe how they set up households in the sandy wastes along the Colorado River. Dam workmen tell stories of the dangers they faced building Hoover Dam, an engineering project unlike any attempted before. http://www.bcmha.org/
5. Mini Boulder City Tour
"Dingbat Houses" These houses, built to house the workers, were so shabbily made the construction workers nicknamed them "dingbats". However because of their distinctive look, being built on blocks instead of foundations with screened porches on the front, the men who lived in them preferred to call them "rabbit hutches".
Boulder City Theater
Built in 1932 during the construction of Hoover Dam by Fox Theaters this one originally had 732 seats and for the overheated men coming back from the long workday it was a most welcome sight, but not because they loved movies, it was the air-conditioning that drew them. Ten cents to see a movie and you could stay all day. Today it is owned by Desi Arnaz Jr. and his wife Miss Amy.
